His system would provide an aircraft with automatic stability and control mechanism, through the control of the ailerons, stabilizer, and tailrudder through the use of a set of simple gyroscopes. Sperrys innovation was presented at the competition installed in a Curtiss C-2 single-engine airplane with a hull-shaped lower fuselage.

1) High Roundout Sometimes when the airplane appears to temporarily stop moving downward, the roundout has been made too rapidly and the airplane is flying level, too high above the runway. In the turn there is no problem, but when rolling out on the runway centerline, the view is reduced even more. To get a little better view approaching the threshold I leaned to my left and stretched up to maybe see a little more of the runway. The view from the rear seat is mostly out the side window. I was listening intently to the ASOS for wind or gusts, letting it repeat 5 or 6 times with the exact same report: 9 kts straight down the runway; no gusts. That was the runway we would use to land. It’s worth noting that Shmulik had a close call in the past: a jet pulled onto the runway in front of him with no radio call.
We originally planned a flight to Vermont for lunch at the Red Mill Restaurant located alongside the magnificent grass runway at Basin Harbor (B06). Oh and that one rudder issue on the MAX? While I haven’t seen it confirmed, I’ve seen it suggested this could have happened from a bird strike on takeoff. It’s unlikely the thing broke because of United’s maintenance.
When bay ice consistently thickens to over 12 inches, a team of dedicated volunteers collaborates with the New Hampshire Department of Transportation to open the Alton Bay Ice Runway. What you do is you sit up high for takeoff and as you add power and the tail comes up almost immediately, very quickly. At that point, you’re simply looking down the runway, and then it lifts off. The tail touched down hard, but to save the landing—and the airplane—Storo put power to it and went around for another approach.
Planespotters note the F2’s separate ailerons and flaps, conventional tail. Out back, theres an entirely new tail. Theres an unusual duck tail between the two elevator halves that provides a measure of anti-stall behavior. You might ask what happens with crosswind landings when you take away rudder authority.
