Iberia has officially taken delivery of the world’s first commercial ready Airbus A321XLR as the carrier prepares to welcome fee-paying passengers in November 2024. In a statement on October 30, 2024, Airbus said that the A321XLR will initially operate on Iberia’s European network before going global with transatlantic flights between Madrid and Boston.

Riyadh Air has announced an order for 60 Airbus A321neo single-aisle aircraft at the Future Investment Initiative (FII) 8th Edition Conference in Saudi Arabia. The deal was confirmed on October 30, 2024, in a signing between Tony Douglas, CEO of Riyadh Air, and Christian Scherer, CEO Commercial Aircraft of Airbus. Before today’s agreement was announced, it was unclear if Riyadh Air would opt for Airbus or Boeing narrowbodies to accompany the previously ordered Dreamliners.

The UAE national carrier, Etihad Airways , has announced a new route connecting Abu Dhabi to El Alamein on the Mediterranean coast of Egypt. The airline recently expanded its services in Asia, Europe, and North America and expects to announce more routes by the end of the year.

Safran Aircraft Engines will invest more than €1 billion ($1.08 billion) in the development of its global maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) network. Safran explained that the investment, announced on October 29, 2024, is to support the growing fleet of LEAP engines around the world. Safran anticipates that demand for LEAP aftersales services in the coming years will surge and expansion of its MRO capabilities is needed in preparation.

On Wednesday, October 30th, the United Kingdom government revealed plans to increase Air Passenger Duty. This is an additional tax charged to passengers on flights that are departing from the UK. The UK government announced that Air Passenger Duty has not kept up with inflation, meaning it was due for an increase. However, the increase will only have a slight effect on commercial flights.

Qantas has officially launched its inaugural flight from Brisbane Airport (BNE) to Manila International Airport (MNL) in the Philippines. Flight QF97 departed Brisbane at 21:46 local time on October 28, 2024, almost an hour behind schedule. After a flight time of more than seven hours, the Airbus A330 aircraft, registration VH-EBG, arrived in Manila at approximately 03:00 local time on October 29, 2024.

China's Shenzhou-19 has successfully delivered three Chinese astronauts to the Tiangong space station also called the China Space Station (the Chinese counterpart to the International Space Station). The docking follows the successful launch of the Shenzhou-19 atop the Long March-2F carrier rocket (which blasted off on Wednesday from China's Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center).

Iberia has taken delivery of its first A321XLR, becoming the launch operator of the world’s newest single-aisle aircraft. The aircraft, powered by CFM LEAP-1A engines, will be operated by Iberia on a number of regional flights across the airline’s European network before its first transatlantic mission from Madrid to Boston later in November. Charles G included me in the text group to see who was interested in a morning flight for breakfast at Cape May, KWWD. Most had plans or meetings, Chris ( YouTube Marauder92V )and I are retired and good to go. The original plan was to meet at 8:30 but we pushed it back to 9:15 so we could preheat. I think we only dropped to 41 degrees here at OCMD but I think Charles said they were in the mid 30's.

Ann Arbor, Michigan-based aviation fuel supplier Avfuel announced it has expanded its blended Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) offerings across the Southeastern U.S. The blends have a target of 30% neat SAF to 70% conventional jet fuel. Avfuel has teamed with Valero Marketing and Supply Co., which is a subsidiary of Valero Energy Corp. The neat SAF is produced by Diamond Green Diesel, a joint venture between a Valero subsidiary and Darling Ingredients.

A woman passenger made a hard landing in a Cessna 150 on Friday evening, October 18 at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport (KGVL) in Gainesville, Georgia, after the pilot was incapacitated. Sadly, the pilot later died, according to the Aviation Safety Network , though it is unclear whether his death resulted from the hard landing, the medical emergency, or a combination of both.
