A NOTAM closing Alton Bay was still active until 7:00 am that morning. As expected, the NOTAM closing the ice runway did expire and no new notification replaced it. "Wakey-Wakey, Eggs and Bakey" It almost did not happen. Additionally, a promising forecast nonetheless held some risk. I took my own advice and slept until 7:00 am.

Softened by excessive rain, the runway was NOTAMed closed. Pitch was controlled by varying the angle of incidence of the upper wing (forward and aft motions of the stick) and roll was initiated by the oversize rudder (left-right motion of the stick).

We had checked weather, Notams, and everything else, and all seemed good. I watched carefully for higher or lower miles on the DME and corrected with a bit of rudder as necessary to keep the miles decreasing. Later, YFB Twr/Wx said that an ice storm had knocked out both NDBs and that no Notam was ever issued.
