At about 50 meters (165 feet) above the ground, the pilot turned left, planning to fly over the grass runway as the start of his routing. The pilot lowered the collective lever by 50%, which decreases the pitch angle of the main rotor blades and thus reduces the lift generated by the rotor. The Emergency Locator Transmitter activated.

As air flows over it, a force like lift results, and the tail is pulled in the opposite direction of the deflection. But instead of an upward force of lift on a wing, it’s a horizontal force pushing the tail of the plane causing the nose of the plane to move left and right. Now we’ve rotated and in the air. Why is this?

We would launch from the paved runway, retract the gear, and head out to one of the nearby waterways to practice takeoffs and landings. We tried lifting the rear of the floats to increase the buoyancy offered by the larger front float chambers. This time, I pushed the throttle all the way to the stop.

It shows the helicopter flying normally, aligned to the runway, and then begin a gentle climb. The pilot told the airport tower controller that he may need the runway. The controller asked the pilot to report when two miles out and to expect runway 28. It rotated several times before crashing into the grass north of runway 28.
