Along with several other forecasts not shown here, this made me believe that a route around the west side of Washington would provide the least exposure to adverse weather, especially as it relates to convective turbulence. There was no ground-based lightning showing up along the remainder of our route of flight despite the heavy rain.

An autopilot and Aspen primary flight display reduce workload on long flights. Bad data caused by turbulence, turns, and other anomalies was discarded. All of our flying started early in the mornings before afternoon turbulence and storms. Pressure altitudes were converted to density altitude.
