Short field landings can be shorter because the drag robbing ground effect is lessened by the greater distance between the wing and ground. Both low wing and high wing aircraft will be affected by lift, weight, thrust and drag.

The 737 does not use Weight on Wheels (WoW) to enable the thrust reversers. This was done early in the program (737-100/200) because it was discovered the 737 was prone to float in ground effect enough that it could prevent WoW from going true after touchdown – same with wheel speed.

Thrust : The force generated by the engine that propels the aircraft forward. Pilots must counteract the additional drag with more thrust to maintain altitude. Gradually reduce thrust from cruise power. You’ll have to accelerate to V x while staying within ground effect. Don’t go all the way back to idle.

The only thing to remember with the reversed props is you still push the throttle forward to increase thrust, so it takes a lot of mental transformation—and slow maneuvering—to make sure you go in the right direction. Resist pulling back, instead letting it accelerate in ground effect (or should we say water effect) for a few seconds.
