Resist pulling back, instead letting it accelerate in ground effect (or should we say water effect) for a few seconds. When the nose begins to tuck that’s your cue you’re climbing onto the step, so measure off the back pressure to make sure you don’t porpoise, then flatten the pitch to accelerate. The plane will fly itself off.
