Kentland has a 4,000-foot runway, east/west, with a crosswind straight out of the north. Nobody answered on unicom, and the facilities were at the west end of the airport, so I decided on left traffic for Runway 27. I turned base early, slipped the RV-9A as hard as it would go, landed halfway down the runway, and stood on the brakes.

After one last check to my left to make sure there weren’t any yahoos on an unapproved short final (old habit), I took the runway then pressed the throttle in to full power.

At 6,000 feet, I anticipated a 2 hour, 45 minute direct flight to Pontiac. After that, the rest of the flight was utterly perfunctory.

I did a quick flight plan and was looking at just under a half hour trip each way. Once warmed up I taxied for runway one-four and was number two for departure. I followed Charles in his Piper 140 to runway one-nine and completed my run up. I made a nice landing and taxi clear for my hangar.

My instructor for the day walked me through the preflight checklist and discussed the plan for our flight while encouraging me to ask any and all questions I had. Once we were ready, we started up, and the instructor radioed the tower before taxiing to the runway. Dont worry if it feels overwhelming.
