In fact, the unusual pitot-tube location—it peeks out from the center of the prop spinner—was chosen to reduce fuselage-to-wing connections. The large canopy pivots at the firewall, so it’s up and out of the way as you settle in. It’s also why the 20 gallons of fuel is carried in a robust tank behind the two seats.
