The airfoil is a Harry Riblett shape, giving modernized flow separation on the leading edge for a soft stall yet with good lift and drag performance. Post-accident assessment of the aircraft revealed substantial damage to the auxiliary power unit (APU) firewall bulkhead, resulting from the aircrafts aft fuselages contact with the runway surface. The left winglet of one of the aircraft collided with the right horizontal stabilizer and elevator of the other.
