Sun Country Plans More Boxes, Fewer People

Cranky Flier

Sun Country is tired of carrying you self-loading cargo around for prices that are too low, so now it’s pivoting toward more cargo flying. Amazon likes this plan, and investors should too. But if you happen to like flying from Minneapolis to, say, Indianapolis, this might be bad news for you. In December 2019, Sun Country signed a deal to fly cargo around for Amazon using 12 Boeing 737-800 freighters.

SR-71 Vs SR-72 Darkstar: A Look At The Design Hurdles For The Son Of Blackbird

Simple Flying

One good SR-72 Darkstar AKA "SOB" (as in "Son of Blackbird," i.e. the SR-71 Blackbird, not the profane kind of "Son of.") deserves a timely follow-up. As I noted in my previous Simple Flying article on this still-hypothetical (at least officially) futuristic warbird, it not only captured the imagination of the Western moviegoing public but concurrently freaked out the top brass of Red China's People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) via its fictitiously embellished appearance in the 2022 box o

Who the Heck is Aero?

Cranky Flier

It’s been a long time since I’ve written up an entry in this illustrious series profiling newer and little-known airlines, and you may notice the name has changed a bit. It turns out that it’s a lot harder to find things when you use random characters like F&*$ or whatever it was in the previous version. So… a softer “heck” it is from now on.

If you’ve flown a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, you may have noticed that your cell phone suddenly loses its signal when you board the plane. However, there’s an additional issue that’s specific to the Boeing 787, which I know leaves many people confused.

Why Is United Airlines' Airbus A350 Order So Important?

Simple Flying

The success of high-profile widebody programs is often what defines aerospace manufacturers. For Airbus, the success of the carrier's widebody operations hinges almost entirely upon a single aircraft type, the Airbus A350. While the Airbus A330neo is certainly a modern widebody, it is not a cutting-edge clean-sheet design and is essentially just an upgraded version of what is almost a 30-year-old airframe.
