The FAA published a final rule last week that allows online submission of aircraft registration documents. Previous regulations required registrants to submit original documents and ink-signed documents to register aircraft but the new rule does away with almost all of that. In some cases, certified or true copies will be needed. It’s hoped the modernization move will speed up the process and chip away at the months-long delays in processing aircraft registrations.

Boom Supersonics XB-1 demonstrator became the first manned civilian aircraft to break the sound barrier since the end of the Concorde era. The aircraft took off from the Mojave Air and Space Port (MHV), California, at 8.22am local time on January 28, 2025, and headed towards a reserved airspace section over the Mojave Desert which had been previously approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the purpose of this test.

Responders in Philadelphia PA are on the scene of what a plane crash that impacted Roosevelt Mall that has erupted a fire across several street blocks. The FAA has confirmed that it was a Lear 55 that had just taken off from Northeast Philadelphia Airport on its way to Branson, Missouri on a medical flight. FAA reported two people on board. 6ABC in Philly is reporting multiple casualties, and reports are the impact (captured by doorbell cams) has ignited underground gas lines.

Last night's tragedy involving American Airlines Flight 5342 and a US Army Sikorsky Black Hawk helicopter has taken a turn for the worst after authorities said emergency responders are now shifting from rescue to recovery mode. The collision put an end to US commercial aviation's 16-year streak of no fatal crashes, the last being the 2009 crash of Colgan Air Flight 3407 in New York.

There were 60 passengers and four crew aboard a PSA CRJ700 regional jet that collided with an Army Blackhawk helicopter, with three service member on board, on short final for Reagan National Airport. An United States F-35 fighter jet crashed on Tuesday at Eielson Air Force Base. The aircraft was filmed by bystanders dramatically falling and crashing into the earth where it exploded in a ball of fire. According to Airman 1st Class Spencer Hanson, the pilot was uninjured during the incident.
