A Boeing 787 Dreamliner operated by Qatar Airways has sustained damage after one of its main landing gear legs fell into a collapsed drain cover at Hamad International Airport (DOH) in Doha. The aircraft had just completed a flight from Colombo in Sri Lanka on October 25, 2024, and was arriving at its allocated parking stand when the incident occurred.

Lufthansa’s charter flight to the Falkland Islands In March 2025, Lufthansa will be operating what’s easily one of the coolest charter flights we’ve seen. Specifically, Lufthansa will be flying between Munich (MUC) and Mount Pleasant (MPN) in the Falkland Islands.

Air France-KLM is interested in acquiring an equity stake in TAP Air Portugal, according to Reuters, which has quoted unnamed sources familiar with the matter. If confirmed, this would mean that the Portuguese flag carrier is now in the sights of the three major European airline groups, namely Lufthansa Group, International Airlines Group (IAG) and now, Air France-KLM.

eVTOL start-up Lilium has filed for bankruptcy days after the German federal government and the Free State of Bavaria have failed to guarantee $108 million in loans the company needs to stay in operation. In a Form 6-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Lilium said it’s out of cash and can’t pay its bills so it’s filing for a “debtor-in-possession” form of insolvency that will give it creditor protection while it scrambles to find more money.

An Etihad Airways Airbus A350 has successfully completed the maiden flight of a brand-new service to Toronto in Canada, as announced by the UAE-based carrier in July 2024. The Airbus A350-1000 , registered A6-XWE, left Abu Dhabi Zayed International Airport (AUH) on October 27, 2024, at 03:19 local time and arrived at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) 14 hours later, shortly after 09:30.

The FAA is eliminating National Weather Service forecasters at all 21 of its Air Route Traffic Control Centers (ARTCC) in favor of an automated system. The alarm was raised by the National Weather Service Employees Organization Monday. The group says forecasters will get their walking papers on April 20. The Qantas Group has marked the end of an era after its last remaining QantasLink Boeing 717 jet flew for the final time. Flight QF1511 departed Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD) on October 26, 2024 at approximately 17:06 local time and arrived at Canberra Airport (CBR) at 18:08. Before its final flight, the aircraft, ‘Great Otway National Park’ (with registration VH-YQS), flew between Sydney, Launceston Airport (LST) and Canberra during the day.

Singapore has signed new Air Services Agreements (ASAs) with five different countries, including its first ever with Cuba. In a statement on October 28, 2024, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) confirmed that ASAs had been signed with Cuba, along with the Dominican Republic, Kazakhstan, Seychelles and Switzerland. LATAM Airlines Group has placed an order for 10 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners with an option to purchase a further five more of the wide-body aircraft. News of the purchase was announced on October 28, 2024, by Boeing along with confirmation that LATAM aims to grow its 787 fleet to 52 aircraft by the end of the decade. LATAM currently operates 37 787-8s and 787-9s and is the largest operator of the aircraft type in South America.

According to a new analysis from Reuters , India's largest (and arguably most important) airline, IndiGo, said that it would expect to have around 40% of its grounded fleet back up in the air by April, something which has plagued the airline financially. The low-cost airline has maintained over 60 aircraft grounded throughout the year, something which was a major issue for the company's Chief Financial Officer, Gaurav Negi.

Ryanair has announced that it will be adding over 1.5 million additional plane seats for the upcoming Christmas travel season in order to meet growing demand across its network. “It’s fantastic to see such high demand for travel over the coming weeks as people prepare for their Christmas flights,” Jade Kirwan, Ryanair’s Head of Communications said. “We have added an additional 1.5 million seats this festive season to meet this demand.

A clearer picture is starting to emerge following Israel's 26 October air strike on Iran in retaliation for its 180-200 ballistic missile barge on Israel on 1 October. The company is offering 90 million common shares and $5 billion in depositary shares to make ends meet.
