The announcement comes as the carrier prepares to accept its first Airbus A321 aircraft before the end of 2024. Qantas has announced that it is scheduled to operate a third non-stop repatriation flight from Cyprus to Sydney to bring Australians home from Lebanon. Flight ASY1280 is set to depart Larnaca International Airport (LCA) on the evening of October 11, 2024, with up to 220 passengers onboard the airline’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The flight is expected to arrive at Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport (SYD) on the evening of October 13, 2024.

While Delta Air Lines may love the Boeing 757 (it operates the largest fleet in the world), the same can't be said of the Boeing 787. Delta Air Lines' fleet of large widebody aircraft is now made up of Airbus A330 and Airbus A350-900 (with Airbus A350-1000s on order). The Boeing 787 and Airbus 350 dominate the world's longest routes and it seems that Delta has decided that the A350 is the ultra-long-haul aircraft of choice for them.

Fortunately the owners backtracked in 2023, and announced that this would in fact once again welcome guests. The property was supposed to reopen in 2024, but that timeline has slipped.
