FAA Amends Mental Health Evaluation Criteria For Pilots

A history of no more than two mental health diagnoses no longer requires automatic review by the FAA for any class of pilot certificate as long as certain criteria are met. The agency has revised its guidance to AMEs on “uncomplicated anxiety, depression and related conditions” and chief among the changes is that the FAA can be left out of the process if the pilot has been off medication for two years, there are no issues raised by a questionnaire and the AME has no concerns.

China Lands Probe On Moon

China has successfully landed a probe on the back side of the moon, and it intends to bring part of it back to Earth with a load of rocks. The Chang’e-6 lander landed in the Aitken Basin near the South Pole. It touched down in a crater and appears to be operating normally. The lander has been in a lunar orbit for 20 days and is part of a four-part system that includes the orbiter, lander, ascender and reentry vehicle that will ultimately bring the payload home.

IATA AGM 2024: IATA issues urgent demand for governments to unblock £1.8bn of airline funds

IATA has renewed calls for governments to urgently remove barriers from airlines repatriating revenues after latest data revealed a $708 billion reduction in the total amount held. The 28% reduction in blocked funds since December 2023 as of April took the total amount being held to $1.8 billion. The figure was revealed at the trade body’s 80th AGM in Dubai.

IATA AGM 2024: SAF production increase ‘on track’ but still ‘long way to go’

The increase, which IATA says is “on track” would see production rise to 1.9 billion litres, equating to 0.53% of the total aviation fuel required in 2024.
