Canadian airline WestJet issued a 72-hour lockout notice to the union representing WestJet aircraft maintenance engineers, the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA). WestJet Airline President and Group Chief Operating Officer Diederik Pen said that the decision to issue a lockout notice was prompted by the “unreasonable demands and expectations” set by AMFA.

Boeing has initiated a lockout of more than a hundred firefighters from its private force responsible for safeguarding aircraft manufacturing facilities in Seattle, US. The action followed unsuccessful negotiations between the aircraft manufacturer and the firefighters’ union regarding salary disputes. On May 4, 2024, Boeing confirmed it locked out approximately 125 firefighters as well as its facility located around 170 miles (275 kilometers) from Washington.

The DoD is asking Congress for permission to retire 32 of its F-22 Raptors. The F-22 Raptor wasn't built to just be an air superiority fighter ; it was an air-dominance fighter. The F-22 was the first fifth-generation fighter to enter service in the world (and remained the only one until the F-35 entered service in 2015).

An Avia Traffic Company Kyrgyzstan Boeing 737 aircraft suffered engine damage after a collision with a bird while climbing out of Bishkek (FRU) in Kyrgyzstan. The incident occurred on May 4, 2024, when the Avia Traffic Company Kyrgyzstan Boeing 737-300 aircraft, registered as EX-37020, was performing domestic flight K9-117 between Bishkek (FRU) and Osh (OSS) on behalf of Tez Jet Airlines.

A recent flight on Batik Air is a prime example of this. On a domestic flight in Indonesia, an unscheduled nap resulted in 12 minutes of silence between the aircraft and the Jakarta Area Control Centre.

I swear I’m not trying to be crass here, as I’m the last person who wants to discuss bathroom activities, or enjoys bathroom humor. Heck, I’m kind of horrified to be writing this. However, I feel like it’s a public service that someone’s gotta do… It’s not uncommon to find an aircraft lavatory that might not objectively be considered clean. The FAA has expanded the list of antidepressants potentially allowed for pilots with three relatively common drugs. Now on the “conditionally approved” list are duloxetine (Cymbalta) venlafaxine (Effexor), desvenlafaxine (Pristiq). A special issuance is required for active pilots to maintain their medicals. The change took effect April 24 and was covered in an update to the AME Guide.

It is now certain that one of Korean Air 's fleet of ten Airbus A380s will never fly again. Photos on Instagram show that the massive passenger jet is being dismantled and recycled. This is not the end of Korean Air's Airbus A380 fleet as they still have a number (perhaps four) of A380-400 s in service, but it is, indeed, the beginning of the end.

During the worst days of the pandemic, many regional and remote communities relied on turboprops to deliver urgent medical personnel, supplies, and services and to keep them connected to the outside world, particularly in areas with airstrips that could not handle jets. As jets sat grounded, aircraft like the ATR or Dash 8 kept those connections alive, highlighting propellor aircraft's important role in commercial aviation.
