Venus Aerospace, a US startup developing hypersonic propulsion technologies, has unveiled a new ramjet system, which it calls “Venus Detonation Ramjet 2000 lb. Thrust Engine” (or “VDR2”). The engine can be fitted into aircraft or drones, and it is capable of reaching speeds of up to Mach 6 (six times the speed of sound) and cruising at Mach 4.

Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) has signed an agreement with lessor AerCap to acquire six brand new Airbus A320neo family aircraft, including the carrier’s first ever A321neos. Azerbaijan Airlines and the world’s largest aviation leasing company confirmed on October 2, 2024, that under the agreement the national flag carrier would receive three Airbus A320neos and three A321neos.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the US federal agency tasked with conducting research on weather phenomena and the oceans, has announced that it is ordering two new C-130J Hercules aircraft from Lockheed Martin. NOAA plans to use these two aircraft as “hurricane hunter aircraft”. These are essentially flying laboratories fitted with a whole array of research instruments and equipment fit for the task of collecting and processing atmospheric data.

An undiscovered bomb from the Second World War exploded at Miyazaki Airport in southwestern Japan on Wednesday, leaving a large crater on a taxiway. Fortunately, no aircraft or personnel were near the bomb when it exploded, but the event did cause more than 80 flights to be canceled.

Deutsche Aircraft has secured a partnership for the construction of the production facility for its new 40-seater regional turboprop, the D328eco, at Leipzig/Halle Airport (LEJ). On October 1, 2024, Deutsche Aircraft announced that Weerts Group will construct the Final Assembly Line (FAL) for the D328eco, which is scheduled to become operational in the fourth quarter of 2025 with 48 aircraft set to be produced each year.

France is planning to introduce significant increases to its solidarity ta x (TSBA) levied on the aviation industry as of next year, according to a report from Les chos. The government is reportedly planning to reap more than 1 billion ($1.1 billion) through the increases to the scheme, nearly tripling current revenues, which stand at around 460 million ($508 million).

On Tuesday, October 1st, Jet Aviation, a company owned by General Dynamics, announced that it redelivered two Boeing Business Jet (BBJ) 737 MAX 8s to a customer. These converted narrowbody aircraft underwent an interior refitting. The refitting of the interiors of these aircraft only took ten months, which is the shortest downtime that Jet Aviation has accomplished for two similar aircraft at the same time.
