In late 2023, Javier Milei was elected president of Argentina, and he’s without a doubt among the most unusual people to be elected leader of a country in quite some time (and there’s a pretty high bar for that nowadays!). Argentina’s economy wasn’t in a good place, and it seems like Argentinians voted for Milei because he couldn’t be further from the status quo in the country, and many assumed the situation couldn’t get worse.

A passenger took control of a King Air C90 from its incapacitated pilot over southern California on Friday and managed to put it safely on a runway at at Meadows Field in Bakersfield. The plane ran off the end of the runway but was undamaged and no one was injured. First responders performed CPR at the scene and took the pilot to a hospital according to KGET News.

One of the highlights of the Farnborough Airshow in July was the introduction by Embraer of its new Embraer Enhanced Takeoff System or E2TS. Its a world-first automated takeoff system that uses inputs from three flight control computers and four smart probes, allowing an aircraft to take off by itself by automating the rotation and controlling the aircraft's pitch for a more efficient elevation.

Winning the Weather Lottery Every year, we plan a fall excursion to Lake Placid for the Williamson Flying Club. We set the date well in advance, but usually target the first weekend in October. Success has varied. Some years, we arrived before the Adirondack Mountains were colored by autumn's hues. Other years, we were too far past peak. There were years -- like 2023 -- when we were unable to go at all due to high wind, low clouds, or some other form of dismal weather.
