35 years ago this week, the crew operating a routine transcontinental US passenger service faced a dramatic, unprecedented situation. A violent and destructive engine failure on the aircraft, one of United Airlines ’ McDonnell Douglas DC-10s, caused the loss of all standard flight controls through the fracture of all three hydraulic syst ems on the aircraft.

Some of the world's largest carriers have canceled flights, planes grounded, and are reverting to old-school techniques to check-in and board aircraft. However, the world's largest low-cost carrier, Southwest , has been able to power through due to an operating system that is 32 years old.

On July 5, 2024, an US Army aeromedical unit rescued an adult civilian after he fell from a Yukon River cabin roof in a completely remote location, far away from any road. The army has announced that the aeromedical evacuation unit, known as Arctic Dustoff, received an emergency call at 6:05 local time and took off from Ladd Field to Fort Wainwright at 7:30 local time.

As an official partner of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games which kick off on July 26, 2024, Air France has announced the roll-out of its latest Airbus A350-900, named ‘Paris’ in honor of the French capital city. Not only does the aircraft carry its new name on either side of the forward fuselage in navy blue, but the plane also features the official logos of both the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games on the front of its fuselage.

Ryanair has announced that the Expedia Travel Group has become the latest online booking platform to join its growing list of approved online travel agencies (OTA), allowing customers to book flights with the low-cost carrier directly. Indeed, Air India is set to deploy its A350 aircraft on its services to London from Delhi. This service change will come into effect starting September 2024, and will include not only the airlines newest widebody aircraft but also upgraded interior cabins.
