A Delta Air Lines Boeing 767 en route from New York to Paris was forced to make an emergency descent following cabin pressurization issues. The aircraft managed to land safely in Paris despite its rapid descent from 34,000 ft to just 10,000ft in eleven minutes. The drama unfolded as Delta flight DL266 headed from New York-JFK Airport (JFK) to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) on July 8, 2024.

Hikers climbing the Devil’s Thumb in Colorado on July 4 almost witnessed a plane crash. The hikers posted this video of an incredibly close shave as the pilot of the aircraft, probably a 172, managed to recover from a spin within feet of the ground near the top of the Continental Divide. The formation known as Devil’s Thumb is at 12,200 feet and it was warm day even at that altitude as evidenced by the clothing worn by the hiker.

A new low-cost airline is preparing to launch in India. Startup carrier Air Kerala has received the initial No-objection Certificate (NOC) from the Civil Aviation Ministry of India. Once issued, the NOC is valid for three years, during which the startup carrier will need to gain its Air Operator Certificate (AOC). The new airline will also need to secure aircraft and the required funding, which its founders estimate at between US$12 and 30 million.

United Airlines filed an application to launch a new daily round trip flight between Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO), connecting two major cities, Washington, D.C. and San Francisco. A passenger flying for the first time deployed the aircraft slide on an Air China A319 after confusing the emergency exit door for the lavatory. The incident occurred on July 4, 2024, flight CA2754 was preparing for departure from Quzhou Airport (JUZ) to Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (CTU).
