Students of Atlantis Flight Academy in Pembroke Pines, Florida, are left in a standstill after the flight school shut down immediately when its owner died in a plane crash in March 2024. Atlantis Flight Academy CEO and owner Alfredo Diez was tragically killed in a Virginia private plane crash that also claimed the lives of Diez’s wife and three-year-old son.

In a somewhat ironic turn of events, the first Cathay Pacific pandemic-era aircraft to be stored in Australia's Red Centre was also the last one to leave, almost four years after it arrived. While most airlines sent their aircraft off to the legendary boneyards in the Californian desert, Cathay Pacific kept theirs closer to home by sending them to Alice Springs to ride out the storm.

The electric vehicle take-off and landing (eVTOL) developer, Archer Aviation, has announced that its subsidiary, Archer Air, has received its Part 135 Air Carrier and Operator Certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the US. The certificate allows Archer Aviation to begin operating aircraft commercially to refine its systems and procedures in advance of launching its eVTOL Midnight, once it receives Type Certification, into service for airlines like United Airlines.

However, celebrations have been dampened by the discovery of new helium leaks onboard the spacecraft as it travels to the International Space Station (ISS). The United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V rocket lifted off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida, on June 5, 2024, at 10:52 local time, with NASA astronauts Barry Wilmore and Sunita Williams strapped inside Boeing’s CST-100 Starliner.

A United Airlines Premier 1K member named Terence sent me an email about a denied boarding situation he faced on a recent itinerary, which I think makes for an interesting story (he has also written about it on FlyerTalk ). With a fleet of over 70 aircraft, Egyptair is Africa's second-largest airline. While it comes behind Ethiopian Airlines in terms of fleet size and destinations served, the Egyptian national carrier has more intercontinental flights to and from Africa than any other airline. According to data from Cirium , an aviation analytics company, the carrier has over 580 weekly flights from Africa in June 2024.

In July 2024, some 132 airports will be on its route map across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, North America, and South America. On Thursday, June 6, Bombardier Defense announced an order for a new, specially-equipped Challenger 650 aircraft. This aircraft was purchased by a subsidiary of Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club (ADAC), which is the largest automobile association in Europe. However, the subsidiary of ADAC that purchased the Bombardier Challenger 650 was Aero-Dienst GmbH.

Delta and American Express have a portfolio of co-branded credit cards. We’ve just seen some new limited time welcome offers rolled out on these cards, which could represent a great deal. Nine airports globally have a minimum of three A380 operators between June and September. And no, Dubai by far the worlds leading double-decker airport for one obvious reason is not one of them. The list includes Washington Dulles , thanks to Lufthansas superjumbos being used for the first time from Munich on May 31. Dulles last had three A380 users in 2019, when Air France, British Airways, and Emirates flew them there.

The first new F-15EX Eagle fighter jets have arrived at the Portland Air National Guard Base for the 142nd Wing. These will replace the older F-15C models that have been serving since the 1980s (the newest was built in 1985). The F-15 was originally built as a dedicated air superiority fighter but has since been developed into a multirole fighter. F-15s boast an outstanding combat record with none being shot down in air-to-air combat.

Emirates announced it had entered into a codeshare agreement with German leisure carrier Condor. Emirates Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer Adnan Kazim and Peter Gerber, CEO of Condor, signed the agreement at the IATA Annual General Meeting in Dubai. The partnership is set to begin in October 2024, subject to government approvals. Coincidentally, Condor’s Berlin-Dubai route will also launch in the same month.

On Wednesday, June 5, Bombardier and its partner Lufthansa Technik Defense announced that the highly customized Bombardier Global 6000 for the PEGASUS program has been rolled out of the Bombardier production facility. Bombardier and Lufthansa Technik Defense developed the upgraded business jet to provide airborne surveillance to be used for the Persisten German Airborne Surveillance System (PEGASUS).
