Low-cost carrier Air India Express has welcomed the arrival of two Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets from AviLease. The Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets are the first of six that will eventually join the airline from the leasing firm. Founded in 2022, AviLease is wholly owned by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF). Air India Express , itself owned by Air India, is scheduled to receive the additional 737-8s before the end of 2024.

Aer Lingus has been demoted from its status as the launch customer for the Airbus A321XLR, as a result of a long-running dispute with its pilots over salaries. The Irish carrier’s parent company, International Airline Group (IAG), has decided that the first of the new aircraft it has on order will instead go to Iberia in Spain. In 2019, IAG placed an initial order for 14 of the new extended-range variant of the A321 twinjet, with six intended to go to Aer Lingus and eight to Iberia.

On May 9, 2024, the DOT OIG announced that it will “specifically evaluate” the FAA’s actions to address “maintenance non-compliances and violations at the air carrier”.

A woman has been sentenced to five years and five months in jail after attempting to smuggle 4.3 kilograms of cocaine through Auckland International Airport (AKL) in 2023. New Zealand Customs Service identified the woman as Delphine Ganon, aged 42. Ganon arrived at Auckland Airport in April 2023, and was stopped for questioning by a customs officer.
