When an aircraft descends below 900 feet on final approach to land, TCAS stops issuing resolution advisories. The NTSB preliminary findings underscore this decision, showing that existing separation between helicopter traffic on Route 4 and aircraft descent paths for final approach on runway 33 are insufficient.

Perhaps just prior to the start of descent could be the optimum time–certainly completed no later than commencement of approach. How truly important is this current approach to mission success? When was the last time either pilot (single pilot) performed this exact approach? Any NOTAMS applicable?

A NOTAM closing Alton Bay was still active until 7:00 am that morning. As expected, the NOTAM closing the ice runway did expire and no new notification replaced it. In the descent, wind direction rotated counterclockwise until it became a direct southerly crosswind. "Wakey-Wakey, Eggs and Bakey" It almost did not happen.

No wonder I got bounced around so much on final approach this morning , I thought. With one final look at Put-In-Bay's refuge harbor, my stomach rumbled and I left the observation deck in search of lunch. The latter explained why the runway lights were NOTAMed out of service.)
