Because the other pilot reported in a moment before I did, Tower asked him to make a short approach and cleared him to land, then instructed me to extend my pattern and land after the other aircraft. Lined up on final approach for runway 34 at Jaffrey. Given the sight picture on final approach, I could only agree.

Once we were on our way, we encountered some expected turbulence especially flying through the clouds but once we reached our assigned flight level, it was smooth all the way until we were on final approach. At this point, we started our descent into Lisbon (LIS) Airport. Once we were closer to ground, it started getting bumpy.

At this point we started our descent and we can feel the wind shaking our plane quite a bit especially at a lower altitude. We arrived into ATH Airport, landing on runway 21L.

At this point we have entered the UK airspace and started our descent. The flaps are all out this means one thing, we are on final approach. Speedbrakes were applied as we have to slow down below 250 knots when we are flying at 10,000 feet and below. The ride was smooth, hardly any bumps so far. Welcome back to the U.K!

At approximately 30-40 feet agl, the spinning stopped and the helicopter appeared to stabilize for a brief moment before continuing a nose-low, forward descent into the grass north of Runway 28. There were a few good bumps during take off and more of it during the descent especially flying through the clouds. Anyway, during the descent, there was quite a bit of bumps and that also includes a sudden downdraft that made me hold on to the seat in front of me, I dislike this feeling to be honest.

Since we lost our LPV approaches due to obstructions along the final approach course, the downgraded LNAV minimum descent altitude for the approach to runway 28 was 558 feet above the ground. I was cleared for the RNAV-28 approach into Sodus and set the avionics appropriately.

Under normal circumstances Shmulik would have had sufficient altitude to delay the landing by several minutes: his glider’s minimum descent rate in still air was just 100 fpm. Even a more typical descent rate of 200 fpm would have allowed Shmulik to hold for about 5-7 minutes before he would have had to proceed with the landing.
