Thaws, rain, snow, and strong crosswinds can temporarily close the airport. The entire morning was a parade of general aviation airplanes swooping low (some lower than others) over the parking area before touching down on the ice. Despite its acclaim, the ephemeral airport leads a finicky existence. I went airplane spotting.
