Due to the shape of the fuselage, the Thunderbolt was known affectionately as the “Jug” by its pilots and ground crews. Production topped any other Allied fighter with 15,683 P-47s produced.

There is something to be said for exercising your pilot in command duties. I made a nice landing and taxied for the hangar. Yes, it's time to cowboy up and get in the air.

Any dust, dirt, and debris that may have accumulated while being worked on in the hangar was first washed off. Using a sprayer system that does not create much overspray, the aircraft would be painted in place in the museum’s main hangar.
