My phone chime woke me up from a deep sleep hours later and I headed back to the cockpit to relieve the Captain so he could get some well deserved sleep. As I walked up the darkened aisle toward the flight deck, I noticed several flight attendants huddled together in the mid-galley talking in hushed tones.

Then one of the flight engineers said to me “Well if they don’t want to go, you had better get in!” I didn’t ask twice and was soon going up the steps into the cockpit! A dream come true!

For the final approach, I calculated V REF of about 128 was fought with much shear, with airspeed variances of up to 20 to 30 knots, providing a wild ride. In the CRJ you can not hear any engines from the cockpit, making for an odd audio sensation. Also visible was green grass and flowering trees.
