When I contacted Rochester Approach, the controller came back with, "Are you looking for your clearance to College Park?" I answered in the affirmative, received my clearance, and was given a climb to 6,000 feet as the rain streaked over my windscreen. I gave my tail number and destination. "Oh, Data center," Potomac answered.

Long story short, when I received my clearance that evening, it was to my originally intended BELTS waypoint.) We were cleared direct to College Park via the Westminster VOR (EMI). We reunited with Simon before making our cellphone calls to Potomac for departure clearances. Tough room. Susquehanna River near Harrisburg, PA.

Kingston Radio provided updated weather conditions while sequencing traffic like a tower with the exception that no landing clearances were given. What the Heck is a LANRK? I had a schedule to keep. How can that be?

Once the rain relented, we staggered our departures and called for our IFR clearances on the ground. Despite those ground clearances, we found that the ceiling above our home airport was high enough to accommodate VFR departures with airborne clearances. Better safe than sorry. That was a good plan.
