Under VFR, the MEF guarantees 100’ obstacle/terrain clearance within that quadrant. Mostly affects runways found next to bodies of water. You encounter icing, and your pitot tube completely ices over, but your static port remains open. Do you need a taxi clearance from ground control in this area?

There was a nice crosswind, and I demonstrated landing on a concrete expansion joint, offset from the runway centerline. Then off to the other runway for a full stop. Repairs included replacing the pitot tube/angle-of-attack sensor and the outside air temperature probe. I could tell that this had the CFI’s full attention.
