Gilead and I, both trailing Ed, ran into dramatically lowering visibility and requested pop-up IFR clearances. Within a a few minutes of going IFR, we emerged into clear air on the other side of the lake effect snow band and made for Sodus where I flew a practice RNAV-28 instrument approach with the autopilot.
