AGL is important for drone pilots as the regular ceiling for drone flight is defined as 400 feet AGL. This means that, in most cases, a drone pilot flying in FPV will need a visual observer nearby. This is a general aviation term that also applies to drone flight.

The flight plan informs the Air Traffic Control (ATC) of your planned course, aircraft capability, and contingency plan. Unlike Visual Flight Rules (VFR), filing an IFR flight plan is mandatory for all IFR flights. The ceiling must be at least 2,000 feet above the airport elevation.
