A NOTAM closing Alton Bay was still active until 7:00 am that morning. As expected, the NOTAM closing the ice runway did expire and no new notification replaced it. Weather conditions on Groundhog Day were better than the week prior, characterized by a high ceiling and no thin screen of clouds hiding the ground from view.

I checked the hangar and had no bulb in my parts cabinet. I called the clearance delivery number on the OXB NOTAM but they gave me another number to call. Behind me, the other Cherokee (a Cherokee Six) landed and aggressively made for the main commercial hangar building. Though I am no geologist, I found myself biting my tongue whenever the tour guide -- who otherwise did a fine job -- referred to the ceiling-bound mineral formations as "stalagtites".
