The report shows that the real risk is for the cabin crew. Flightradar24 have commented that many analyses are including the descent from 37,000 to 31,000 feet as caused by the turbulence. In fact, the descent to 31,000 feet was flown by the flight crew as the start of the planned emergency descent to Bangkok.

It took a while before the seatbelt sign was turned off and the crew started preparing for in-flight service. Some nice Indian music was being played before take off and landing, I thought that was nice, it somehow helps to calm one nerves especially when flying through turbulent weather. The pillow added extra comfort for me.

On the day of departure Even though we had plenty of time before our flight departure, we decided to head to the airport early as dragging our cabin baggage across the footpath was not ideal. The weather was cooling and it was a great day for walk. Once that was cleared, the cabin crew were released for duty. Like my previous flights, a set of crew would come around with a camera offering complimentary polaroid photos for the passengers and not surprisingly, they went past me. The weather looks great right?

Once on board, I noticed a cabin crew was serving champagne on a plastic cup and was pleasantly surprised I was given one, I suppose because of the occasion (New Year's Day). Once we were on our way, we flew through a bit of turbulence but once the weather was better, the seat belt sign was turned off. That's a good idea!
