Flying Through the Center of a Trough Should Have Been Uneventful

Flying Magazine

hour flight in a Columbia 400 from Rock Hill/York County Airport ( KUZA ) in South Carolina, just south of Charlotte, to Lincoln Park Airport (N07) in northern New Jersey was uneventful with outstanding weather and smooth air ahead of an approaching weather system. My presentation later that afternoon went extremely well.

We were IMC with some moderate turbulence when, out of the blue, the prisoner jumped up between us and tried to grab hold of the captain’s gun, which was in his holster. Later, YFB Twr/Wx said that an ice storm had knocked out both NDBs and that no Notam was ever issued. What is the advice? I flew as fast as possible.
