The Pitot-Static System: How It Works

The pitot-static system measures an aircraft’s airspeed, altitude, and vertical speed using air pressure differences. To calculate airspeed accurately, we need to separate the dynamic pressure from the total pressure. This allows the system to subtract it and display the correct airspeed. That’s called a pitot tube.
