In June, 2004, a Northwest Airlines flight from Minneapolis to Rapid City mistakenly landed at Ellsworth Air Force Base. Essentially you eyeball the airport through the windshield, report “field in sight” to ATC, get your clearance and go ahead and land. And this is only a partial list.
