Unintended Tail Dragger: Prolonged Tail Strike at Milan

I’ve never seen a tail strike quite so… prolonged. The eleven-year-old Boeing 777-300ER, owned by Latam Airlines and registered in Brazil as PT-MUG, was operating flight LA8073 from Milan to São Paulo, Brazil. The CCTV surveillance footage captured the aircraft attempting to take off from runway 35L.

At 1:26PM local time, the aircraft took off from Milan Malpensa Airport’s runway 35L. However, while rotating, the jet struck its tail on the runway.

A LATAM Airlines Boeing 777-300 has suffered a tailstrike as it departed from Milan Airport. Having taken off from Milan’s runway 35L at 13:26 local time, the aircraft’s tail made contact with the runway surface as the aircraft rotated. As a result, runway 35L was closed for inspection.
