Hurghada Approach passed us off to Cairo Control and they refused to give us a direct to the first Saudi VOR WEJ at the east side of the Red Sea due to unknown reasons. MHz with an airliner taking off from there: that was new ! Never had such a bizarre approach … I guess it was safe !?

As we approached the Bay I counted seventeen ships at anchor, waiting to be cleared through the temporary channel at the former Francis Scott Key bridge. Once clear of Myrtle Beach I was handed off to Wilmington approach.

I requested flight following to Boston for a city tour from Beverly Ground and we were handed off to Boston Approach shortly after getting airborne. I was a little nervous.

Currently ANA (Not the airline) Aeroportos de Portugal is responsible for the airport and so far it has expanded the airport by building a second terminal which is used exclusively for low cost carriers. Also, from when I lived out West, there was the mountaintop clearance guideline—1,000 feet for every 10 knots of wind, with 30 knots meaning no-go. With my risk profile, IFR really means ignoring crappy VFR and VFR cloud clearance requirements. The 1,000-foot en route ceiling means that approach minimums never come into question.
