While crossing the North Atlantic to Europe is possible, those trips are generally reserved for airliners or private jets with the training and authorizations to operate within the high-altitude minimum navigation performance specification airspace. Use of an ICAO flight plan is required for international flights—either IFR or Defense VFR.
