Aircraft Weight and Limitations An aircraft’s weight affects inertia and stopping distance. The POH lists landing distances for specific gross weights. Smaller aircraft may only have short field landing distances for maximum gross weight. The greater the mass of the aircraft, the longer the landing roll.

This is often the clean configuration at max gross weight. As the aircraft approaches the target airspeed, add power to ensure you don’t slow down past it. To fight this overbanking tendency, add light aileron pressure in the opposite direction. Flying Too Fast Students are often wary of approaching the stall speed.

Resuming a powered descent to enter the pattern, the aux fuel pump goes on and flaps are deployed to 15 degrees, and the aircraft trimmed to 75 knots for the approach.
