Example of a Preventable Accident A prime example of when a go-around could’ve prevented an accident is in the case of Southwest Airlines Flight 1455. In IFR, retract flaps at the appropriate speed above 400ft AGL. Once you have the aircraft climbing out and at a safe altitude, adjust the trim to make the aircraft easier to fly.
